VTS Rock Climbing Guide, Wilderness First Aid & CPR, Completed AMGA SPI Course (Assessment, Spring 2017)
Joe started young in the outdoors. Cub Scouts, Webelos and Boy Scouts were his start to his many outdoor passions. Learning to love camping, canoeing, skiing and backpacking at that young age soon lead him to spend 5 years in the US Army National Guard Infantry. After college, he continued hiking and backpacking all over the east coast, soon adding winter backpacking and alpining to the mix. Joe has tackled the Presidential range of New Hampshire and the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks in the dead of winter. Joe is also an expert snowboarder and cross country mountain biker. He’s snowboarded and rode mountain bike all over the North East.
And then he hit rock climbing. That’s where the fever stoked up quite a bit. Joe has 10 years top rope set up, 6 years sport climbing, 4 years traditional climbing, 2 years top rope ice climbing, and he more recently entered the world of multi-pitch ice climbing. Joe just can’t get enough of climbing, and he loves to share that passion with others.
Joe is currently a high school teacher certified in Mathematics and Physics. Putting together his two great passions, teaching and the outdoors, Joe is the founder and mentor of the Outdoors Club and Ski/Snowboard Club at the high school where he teaches.
But Joe just isn’t an outdoors person. Here’s some other interesting things/positions he’s held: Captain/President of the Kutztown University Rifle Team, Captain/President of the Kutztown Karate Club, Mixed Martial Arts Instructor, Masters of Divinity, Masters of Education in Administration, 1st chair Saxophonist for the 276th Army National Guard Band, High School Ultimate Frisbee Club Coach, High School Chess Club coach, High School Boys/Girls Soccer Coach, High School Jiu-jitsu Club instructor, and High School Wrestling coach.
