A beautiful hike. Attention to detail and safety were continually evaluated by guides. Always felt safe, effective safety equipment. David was enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful to all participants in the group. David even photographed the group throughout the trip. Well worth the time and cost. A fabulous day!

With crampons under your boots and an ice axe in hand, join VTS on this magical winter adventure. You will explore waterfalls and ice formations as you trek through the ravines of the majestic Ricketts Glen State Park in the Pocono Mountains. We will hike along the Falls Trail and explore the Glens Natural Area, a designated National Natural Landmark. The trail system boasts dozens of wild, free-flowing waterfalls, each cascading through rock-strewn cliffs in this ancient hillside. Many of the waterfalls and streams freeze, as do the walls of the cliffs and the banks of the trail, creating glistening ice formations and an awe inspiring experience. Ganoga Falls, the tallest waterfall, is 94 ft. and when it freezes you’ll find yourself in an amphitheater of icicles—truly an awe inspiring experience. This trip transports you to a frozen-in-time waterfall wonderland. The guides set hand-lines at certain sections of the trail as we hike on an ice-packed trail system—it is an incredible experience!
Please note that this is NOT an ice climbing trip. We will NOT climb up vertical ice. We hike a mostly frozen trail system using crampons, ice axes and other related gear. No prior experience necessary.

Weather: We monitor the snow and ice
conditions of the Falls Trail at Ricketts Glen. We want everyone to have an authentic experience. Please note that the waterfalls do not have to be frozen for us to run the trip. There are a number of factors we consider, such as weather, temperature, the amount of ice and snow on the trail system and the amount and quality of the ice formations on the walls surrounding the waterfalls. If there is insufficient ice or if rain is forecasted for the whole day, we will cancel the trip. A few rain showers won’t keep us away. As for snow, we welcome it, but the presence of snow is not required. A big snow storm, however, could impact our decision as we rather not have you drive in unreasonable hazardous conditions. We do our best at monitoring the weather. We will contact you as soon as we think a storm may interfere with a trip.
– Operator Cancellation: If we cancel a trip, you can reschedule, apply your funds to another trip category or request a refund.
– Client Cancellation: Full refunds are available if you cancel at least 14 days before the date of your trip. For all other cancellations except no-shows and day-of cancellations, you may reschedule at no additional cost or apply your payment to any other VTS trip category. No-shows and day-of cancellations can reschedule and will incur a $25 administrative fee per ticket.
– Refund Policy for Groupon Vouchers: Refunds are not available if you booked the trip with a Groupon voucher. For all cancellations except no-shows and day-of cancellations, you may reschedule at no additional cost or apply the cost of the voucher to any other VTS trip category in the future. You can even use the voucher for the 2019 ice hiking season – we will always honor the voucher until you are able to use it. No-shows and day-of cancellations can reschedule and will incur a $25 administrative fee per ticket.
Lodging Considerations: We understand that many participants travel up to 2 hours or more to attend this magnificent trip. As such, we recommend you to consider making lodging arrangements for the evening before your trip. Please also consider lodging arrangements for after the trip as you may be tired. Also, having lodging options is great in the event of inclement weather forecasted for before or after the trip.
“Valley to Summit is a great guided wilderness adventure company. This is our 2nd trip with VTS and we had a blast…David made sure everyone was properly clothed for the trek and continually checked in to make sure folks were regulating their temperatures… I continue to be impressed with the attention to safety coupled with their obvious enthusiasm about giving folks an amazing outdoor experience. It’s folks like these that have the power to inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts and nature advocates…The Frozen Waterfall Hike was a truly unique and inspiring adventure. It was a Valentine’s Day I will not soon forget” – Jessica W.
