Immerse yourself in a 2-day rock climbing extravaganza in the Michaux State Forest. We
will spend time at both Pole Steeple and Shaffer Rock pulling down routes, rappelling and setting up a tyrollean traverse. We do the tyrollean traverse on the summit of Pole Steeple as the summit is split, creating 2 pillars. We setup a rope between the 2 pillars to traverse from one pillar to the other—pretty rad!
We will also review and practice rope coiling, knot tying, and anchor building using natural features (trees, boulders, etc.) and artificial gear (cams, nuts, hexes, tai-cams, etc.). We won’t have time for full anchor courses, but there will be ample opportunity for mini anchor clinics throughout the 2 days.
In addition to climbing, we will take a couple hikes on the famous Appalachian Trail, which nearly passes by Pole Steeple and Shaffer Rock.
As a group or on your own, an experience not to be missed is a visit to America’s first hiking Museum — the Appalachian Trail Museum in Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Interestingly enough, the park is the half way point of the 2,186-mile Appalachian trail, a designated National Scenic Trail.
All level of climbers are welcomed.
